What we collect, why, and how to get it deleted.

Last updated September 2026

What we collect

  • Account details: name, username, email, password (hashed, never readable by us).
  • Profile content you add: photo, cover, headline, bio, location, stack, availability and social links. All of this is public by design.
  • Posts, reactions and comments you make. Public.
  • Security logs: IP address, browser and time for logins, failed attempts and sensitive changes. Kept for 365 days, visible to you under Security settings and to admins.
  • Contact requests sent to you through your profile, including the sender's name, email and message.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell personal data. Sponsors see aggregate reach numbers, never member lists.
  • We do not show your email to anyone. Employer contacts reach you through the site and your inbox.
  • We do not run third-party tracking scripts. Sponsor pop-up frequency is stored in your own browser.

Cookies and browser storage

ZAN sets only the cookies it needs to work. There is no analytics, advertising or cross-site tracking cookie anywhere on the site.

  • Session cookie: keeps you signed in while you browse. It expires when the session ends.
  • XSRF-TOKEN: proves a form was submitted from this site and not somewhere else.
  • zan_cookie_consent: remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice, so it stops appearing. Kept for a year.

Two more preferences live in your own browser's storage rather than in a cookie, and never reach our server: your light or dark theme choice, and how recently you saw a sponsor pop-up. Clearing site data in your browser removes all of it.

Third parties

Payments for memberships and session seats are processed by ganap; we keep the reference number and amount, never your card or wallet details. When you book a session we keep your seat with your name and email so we can send you the join link. Demo screenshots may be fetched from your project's own social image or a screenshot service. Placeholder avatars use a public avatar API when you have not uploaded a photo.

Your controls

  • Edit or remove anything on your profile at any time.
  • Turn off employer contact in your profile settings.
  • Review active sessions and sign out other devices under Security.
  • Delete your account from Security settings. Posts and comments are removed with it.
